Emergency Financial Assistance Update from First UMC Elgin (10.15.2025)

Due to the significant impact of the 2025 storm event on our church and resources, we regret to inform the community that the First UMC Elgin Good Samaritan Fund currently has no financial assistance or gift cards available.

We understand this is a difficult time for many, and we encourage those in need of emergency financial assistance to contact the following local organizations:

  • Salvation Army - Elgin Corps Community Center
    • This service provides emergency assistance with rent/mortgage, utility bills, and other basic needs.

  • Community Crisis Center
    • Provides 24/7 crisis intervention, shelter, and resources, including financial assistance, for those impacted by domestic/sexual abuse or other crises.

  • Elgin Township Emergency Assistance
    • Offers needs-based assistance for eligible Township residents with rent, gas, electric, or water bills (eligibility is income-based and requires notices such as eviction or utility disconnection).
    • Call 847-741-2045 for an appointment.
  • St. Vincent de Paul Society - St. Thomas More (Serving Elgin West of the Fox River, South Elgin, and parts of Gilbert's)
    • This service assists with various needs like rent, utilities, food, and medicine.
