Whether you are pursuing a traditional degree or professional advancement, we invite you to apply for the following opportunities:
- The Melvin J. Ihrke Scholarship: Honoring Melvin J. Ihrke’s legacy by supporting members of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin and the surrounding community in their pursuit of professional and academic advancement.
- The Lee & Lydia Robertson Scholarship: Established in memory of Lee and Lydia Robertson to provide financial assistance to dedicated students within our church community who are pursuing higher education.

The Melvin J. Ihrke Scholarship
Purpose: To assist students who are active members of First United Methodist Church of Elgin and face financial barriers to higher education.
Award Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Open to persons preparing to attend or currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate school study.
Requirements: Must be an active member in good academic standing. Applicants must submit a personal statement (250–500 words) on leadership and service, a church transcript, a letter from their pastor, and letters of reference.
2026 Deadline: May 31, 2026.
The Lee & Lydia Robertson Scholarship
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to dedicated students within the First United Methodist Church of Elgin community pursuing higher education in memory of Lee and Lydia Robertson.
Award Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: Specifically for students within the First UMC Elgin community pursuing higher education.
Renewal: Historically, this scholarship has been eligible for automatic renewal for returning students.
Requirements: Completion of the unified application form and submission of supporting academic documents.
2026 Deadline: May 31, 2026.
